Johann Petursson Ringling Brothers Tallest Man Circus Side Showman Lot

This is a spectacular offering of an ORIGINAL pair of Oxford Style shoes and Giant Ring once belonging to "The Viking Giant", Johann Petursson (born Johann Svarfaelingur in 1913, died in Iceland in 1984), billed by Ringling Brothers Circus (1948) as the World's Tallest Man.  He later toured with Porter, until he opened his one One-Man-Show in the early 1950s.

The vamps have a 1940s type wingtip pattern vamp and were custom made for the Iceland-born tallest man.  They measure approximately 16-1/2 inches on the all leather sole to leather heel, the last was 16 inches.  They are a Size 24.

The leather is very old and shows crazing and cracks from age.  They date to about the 1940s.

This is a very rare opportunity to own a piece of side show history from one of the first great performing entrepreneurs of the business.

Accompanying the shoes is a very high quality "Giant Ring" with an inside diameter of 1-1/8 inches (approximately a Size 24).  This is a truly massive ring, very well made and older than the usually encountered "Rube Rings" Petursson sold to supplement his income. Later rings have some of the attributes of the embellishments and decorations on the right and left sides and table of this ring. The back band is plain and shows no signs of any resizing.  There is very faint and worn script engraving on the face that appear to be Petursson's initials and a date.  The engraving might be readable with some careful testing. Nothing has been done to the ring to test it.  It is a silver-plated light alloy.

Offered for POR for BOTH the ring and the shoes
