Clandestine Warfare, Espionage, Counterinsurgency, and Special Operations Commando Edged Weapons

Fairbairn-Sykes Combat Fighting Knives Fairbairn-Sykes & H.G. Long Commemorative Fighting Knives
has been expanded and moved to another page.

This is very rare pre-war signed and designated SPECIMEN COPY of the 1926 First Edition of W.E. Fairbairn's oriental fighting style classic DEFENDU: Scientific Self-Defence. cloth-covered hardback edition.

This 171 page 5-1/4 by 7 by 10 inch book describes fighting techniques as taught to the Shanghai Police and others using a variety of weapons, including disarming an opponent armed with a gun, as well as strikes, holds, throws and restraining techniques.  The first page of the table of contents is missing from this book. This is a view of the title page, showing "Specimen Copy" and "Shanghai China 1926" in Fairbairn's handwriting and his signature.

For comparison purposes, these are two photocopies of samples of his signature and handwriting..

The condition is well-used with some minor stains on the covers and a little looseness in the binding.  All the pages are present and attached, with the exception of the first page of the table of contents.  This is a hard book to find in any condition, a super-rare specimen copy is an item that would be the centerpiece your collection of F-S and OSS/SOE weapons.
