Generalfeldmarschal von Kleist Tunic and Trousers Uniform Lot SOLD
This is a very rare General Officer Identified uniform lot.
Included in this outstanding group are the tunic, breeches, visor hat, badges and medals, and quality copies of a number of supporting documents and photographs of General Betzel. The general was KIA in early 1945 and this uniform was retained by the family since the end of the war. This uniform was apparently his first general grade officer uniform as it is identified by the ID tag in the pocket with his previous rank of Oberst (Colonel).
His complete service record indicates he was trained as an artillery officer and served as a company grade officer throughout WWI from June 1914 through the end of the war. Between the wars, he held several assignments until he entered the SA in 1933. At the outbreak of WWII, he was activated from the reserves, to serve again an artillery officer until he transferred to the 9th Panzer Division in 1944, then the 4th Panzer Division, eventually becoming the Commanding General of that unit. He was killed in action as the Commanding General of the 539 Infantry Division in Danzig in March, 1945.
His awards include the German Cross in Gold, the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves. These two decorations are NOT a part of this lot, however his Iron Cross First Class 1914, Spange Bar 1939, ribbon bar, and General Assault badge are included.

Generalleutnant Clemens Betzel Complete Uniform Lot $ SOLD
This is a very rare General Officer Identified uniform lot.
Included in this outstanding group are the tunic and breeches.
His complete service record indicates Adolf Joseph Ferdinand Galland was a World War II German fighter pilot and commander of Germany's fighter force (General der Jagdflieger) from 1941 to 1945. Galland joined the Luftwaffe in 1933, and despite suffering injuries, including a damaged eye, in two crashes, he continued his military career. In 1937 he was one of 20,000 German military personnel to see action in the Condor Legion. Galland transferred to a fighter unit in 1940 and quickly reached Ace status during the Battle of France. In November 1941, with his score standing at 94 Galland became General der Jagdflieger at the age of 29. Galland continued to test fly many types of German aircraft, occasionally flying combat missions. Galland surrendered to United States Army forces in May 1945. He claimed a total of 104 victories in 705 missions and was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross (Ritterkreuz) with oak leaves, swords and diamonds, one of only 27 recipients of the highest German military decoration.
The shoulder boards on this uniform are post-war replacements that General Galland had sewn in to replace an original set that was initially on the uniform. The uniform is otherwise complete and original, to include the loops for the Spanish Cross in Gold with Swords and Diamonds, the Front Flying Clasp in Gold, the Combined Pilot Observer in Gold with Diamonds, and the Iron Cross First Class.

This is a Freikorps uniform tunic and pants. It has a seven button toggle closure front and its original shoulder board and aiguillettes. The tunic has an inner pocket with the owners initials on them.
The tunic measures 19" armpit to armpit, 18" across the back top of shoulders with a 25" sleeves. The sleeves have been turned under approximately 2" and there is another set of toggles intact.
The pants have a 36" waist with a 31" inseam with a 2" hem. Although I believe this to be an original uniform, I think it has been somewhat refurbished over time. The interior pockets and some of the stitching of the pants don't quite seem period to me. I've included several pictures of the interior so you can decide for yourself.
There is some moth tracking and period done repairs. The alterations that I feel were done at a later time are all internal and do not detract from the over all appearance of the uniform.
Here are additional photos 1 2 3 4 5 6 7.

The White Summer Army General Tunic. Each Shoulder Board has 3 over-sized pips. They are NOT as large as a regular General's but much larger than an Officer's pips. The pips do not go all the way through the shoulder boards. One of the pips is a period replacement. The exact rank is next to the Feldmarschall rank.
Over the left pocket there is a set of loops for a ribbon bar. The pocket has loops for a Spange and Iron Cross 1st Class and 1 other award. The White Tunic has aged down to a light cream color. The Riding Breeches are tailor made. They are not the usual stone gray, but more of a blue green. Much like a Waffen SS General's. The Breeches also have the usual double red stripes.
The condition of the set is near MINT. Here are other views. 1 2 3 4

This is an early scarce private made tunic piped tunic with a custom VARIANT wide belt made inside of the tunic for a good custom fit. The 2 Pips on each shoulder board are the large over sized ones, and do NOT go all the way through the shoulder boards. The Collar Tabs are machine sewn and were sewn on before the backing of the collar was sewn together. The stitching does not show on the back side of the collar. The gold bullion eagle is hand sewn as always.
Above the left pocket are loops for a long ribbon or medal bar. On the left pocket there are 3 loops spaced apart for an Iron Cross with attached Spange. There are loops for 3 medals below the pocket. Below the right pocket is another set of loops. Inside the lower left pocket is a slot for dagger hangers.
The tunic does not have any rips, tears or moth damage. The Riding Breeches are the normal high grade stone gray type with the usual double red stripes down the sides.
The Visor Hat is the standard Army Generals Hat with Gold Piping and Gold Metal Insignia. The inside sweat diamond is absent. The hat shows minimum wear with no damage.
There are also 2 black & white portrait photos of the original owner of this set. He is Not wearing this early piped tunic, but as can be seen in the photos he has the Iron Cross with Spange plus the 3 medals under the pocket. He is also wearing what appears to be the Turkish badge under the right pocket. Since he is a Knights Cross Winner it might not be to hard to match up his photo to find out who he was, as the tunic lot is not named.
