German Iron Cross

This is a MINTY spange with a MINT frosty finish in an original period case.

The spange is unmarked and the inside of the case has some silk lining tearing along the hinge.

There is very minor tarnish from routine wear, visible in this close-up of the 1939 date and swastika area of the front. This is a view of the 1813 date.

This is a close-up of the maker and silver content marks on both the suspension loop and cross. The maker is indicated as L/26, (Klein & Quenzer, Oberstein) and 900.  The loop is marked 800. The sewn ribbon has 8 inch narrow neck ties.

This KCIC was the one awarded to Feldwebel Hermann Schramm on the occasion of his 24th victory in 1941. He later ran his record to 42 before he was killed in action when his parachute failed to open in 1943.

The death notice is original.  The leather wallet is period and contained the original documents shown. The remainder of the documents are post-war copies from various sources documenting Schramm's record.

The device measures 43mm square. It has a hinged pin for attachment to the uniform, with unusual open bottom hooks at the horizontal arms to keep it perfectly aligned in wear. There is a very small maker mark apparent, resembling three oak leaves at the center of the back, under the pin.

The device measures 42mm square. It is slightly vaulted. It has a dual screw back for attachment to the uniform, with unusual large back plate to keep it perfectly aligned in wear. There a very small square impressed maker mark apparent on the cross under the plate.

This is a very scarce and desirable badge in outstanding condition.

The condition is near excellent, with deep tarnish overall, as shown.

The device measures 44mm square. It has a flat pin back with simple hook closure. 

There is moderate to heavy tarnish throughout and routine wear to the high parts of the black painted core, visible in these images of the back with the pin down.There is a "G" maker mark stamped in the center of the outside of the pin. There are some scratches on the iron core.

This is a very scarce and desirable badge in very nice condition.
