USA World War Two Signed & Dedicated "to a side kick Frank Jones Bestis Jerry D" Famous War Cartoon Artist Jerry Doyle
Jerry Doyle  (1898 - 1986) spent most of his career at The Philadelphia Record, The Philadelphia Daily News and The Philadelphia Inquirer. Doyle's support for the New Deal meant that his cartoons generally expressed support for President Roosevelt, whom he depicted as tall, imposing, powerful, and larger-than-life. Doyle’s early and continual criticism towards Hitler and Mussolini made him the only American cartoonist to be put on the Nazi hit list. http://www.politicalcartoon.co.uk/gallery/artist/doyle-jerry-1898-1986_102.html

This is a 14 x 18 inch 35 cm x 45 cm ORIGINAL cartoon by Jerry Doyle as shown.  It features Hitler up a tree with John Bull observing while 4 hungry wolves are growing at Hitler.

This is a HAND PAINTED rare Sea Services Commando recruiting poster.  It states "Apply at 170 Park St. Bangor" (Maine).  The condition is near MINT.  Here is another view.

Underwater Demolition Teams (UDT) were an elite special-purpose force established by the United States Navy during World War II. They also served during the Korean War and the Vietnam War. Their primary function was to reconnoiter and destroy enemy defensive obstacles on beaches prior to amphibious landings. The UDT's reconnoitered beaches and the waters just offshore, locating reefs, rocks, and shoals that would interfere with landing craft. They also used explosives to demolish underwater obstacles planted by the enemy.

As the U.S. Navy's elite combat swimmers, they were employed to breach the cables and nets protecting enemy harbors, plant limpet mines on enemy ships, and locate and mark mines for clearing by minesweepers. They also conducted river surveys and foreign military training. The UDT's pioneered combat swimming, closed-circuit diving, underwater demolitions, and midget submarine (dry and wet submersible) operations.

They were the precursor to the present-day United States Navy SEALs.[1] In 1983, the UDTs were re-designated "Swimmer Delivery Vehicle Teams" (SDVTs). SDVTs have since been re-designated SEAL Delivery Vehicle Teams.[2].

Mail Pouch Chewing Tobacco Archer Counter Poster Broadside Advertisement

This is an original Early 20th Century period advertisement for this noted brand, owned by the Bloch Brothers Tobacco Company of Wheeling, West Virginia who discovered stogie clippings could be flavored and sold in bags as chewing tobacco in the late 19th century.

The artwork depicts an English archer in full draw with the legend STRONG ARMS AND STEADY EYES - The invention of firearms made archery a romance of the past.  Famous archers of history devoted their entire lives, from early childhood, to constant practice and physical training.  No modern man could duplicate their feats of skill and strength."

While that may have been true when the poster was printed, archery is still a very competitive sport and the archers far more accurate than those of the past.  For this reason alone, it is an interesting study in historical perspectives of the time.

The back of the broadside is shown here, with parts of the stand-up remaining.

Prince Albert Tobacco Chief Many Horns Poster Broadside Advertisement

Prince Albert -- the national joy smoke Pipe Tobacco Advertisement Broadside Poster.

This is an original Early 20th Century period advertisement for this noted brand. The artwork appears to have been derived from another artist, with the pipe moved to make it more prominent in the advertisement -- not surprising considering the context. The Catlinite pipe is more like the one that Man-Packs-Eagle carried as opposed to the tomahawk pipe usually seen with artworks of Many Horns.

The artwork depicts Chief Many Horns. Many Horns (“He Ota”) was a Dakota Sioux Cut Head band chief of the Upper Yanktonais, who roamed in the late 1870s the upper Missouri and Milk River region in Montana.

There is a deep crease and some significant damage of the broadside as shown here and signs of early attempts at repair here.

The condition is generally fair to good, with moderate wear to the edges and damage as shown.

It measures 19-1/2 inches wide by 25 inches high in the frame.
