RELC-001 This is a silver and crystal glass custom made reliquary and matching chain.

This belonged to Corporal Edward Douglass, one of a very few US Army aviators assigned to the US Navy Zeppelin rigid airships.  He was one of the 15 survivors of the crash of the USS SHENANDOAH (ZR-1) in 1924, having a miraculous brush with death by clinging to a piece of the wreckage when the ship tore loose of her mooring.  He was able to pull himself into the airship and save himself.  His choice of reliquary and the relic itself are significant.  He was also on the crews of the USS LOS ANGELES (ZR-3) and several other airships throughout the 1920s and 1930s.

The relic is marked ex veste (from the clothing of) B. Theresiae a J. In. (Beatified Teresa of the Infant Jesus).  It is mounted on a red cloth backing with silver cord surrounding it.

Saint Teresiae of Lisieux (also seen as Therese and Teresia) was Canonized in 1925 by Pope Pius XI (the date is on the back under the red seal and red silk threads) She was born in Normandy, France, and she is the Patron Saint of aviators, air crews, and pilots.

This ring has intricate carving and a unique design as shown in the detailed images of the overall view, seal and threads and back sides. It is silver content marked 800 and maker marked VM.

The locket measures 1-1/4 by 1-1/2 inches. The case is smooth and rounded with no sharp edges.  The rope chain is 14 inches long.

The condition is near excellent throughout.

As mentioned above, the relic is a gift to the purchaser of the reliquary and chain.
