Military and Military Police Badges

This is a US 503rd Military Police (Airborne) HERALDIC Badge Fitted into an Identified Leather Billfold.

This is an absolutely magnificent wartime occupation MP item. It features a handmade silver 2-1/2 x 3-1/2 inch custom die-struck Military Police HERALDIC Badge per the image furnished.  This is a HERALDIC device which is typically used by military units to indicate the nature of the unit, and its lineage.

The 503rd MP Bn made the invasion landing at Normandy and served throughout Europe during WWII.  They were re-activated as an occupation force in Italy for a year in 1946. This unit is still active today and is currently in Iraq.

The words:

HEADQUARTERS 503 MP BN are hand engraved along the bottom of this magnificent HERALDIC badge.

It is attached to the leather by three metal rivets and has never been removed from this billfold.

The other side of this billfold has the words in gold letters:

HEADQUARTERS 503RD M.P. BATTALION 1ST LT ALVIN N. PAPPERITZ and the Distinctive Unit Insignia of the unit embossed in the center.

This black leather holder was made by S. LUTI FIRENZE (Italy) and so marked.

The lot also includes his MP pass which reads:

HQ DET 503RD MP BN MILITARY POLICE PASS for Alvin N. Papperitz 1st Lieut. ASN 0-490114 with his hair and eye color and height.  The pass describes the officer so when he is going about his business, it shows he had command permission to do so.  It expired over 60 years ago.

It is signed by the CMP (Chief of Military Police) and countersigned by Papperitz below his photograph.

Additionally a signed and stamped Liverno (Leghorn) Italy, Chief of Police authorization of identification completes this great wartime police lot.

The condition is near excellent overall.
