This exceptional Diary is written by Julian B. Pocius a Machine Gunner in the “famous” 1st Marine Division. If you saw the HBO series “The Pacific”….this is an ACTUAL handwritten in the Field WWII Diary from a 1st Marine Division Machine AA Gunner who was actually there! Lots of BATTLE CONTENT action. Unfortunately, Julian died in December of 1954 (during his time in Korea) - he was actually in Japan at the time.
This Diary has handwritten entries just about everyday (August 7 – December 23, 1943) during his ENTIRE stay at Guadalcanal. He writes of smelling the dead bodies of the Japanese, the taking of the Airfield, struggling through the dense Jungle, no food, submarines, Naval Ship battles, Japanese Aircraft they shot down, entries of important key Battles on Guadalcanal, constant daily Air Raids, attacks in the Jungle – it has everything a military collector would want. He kept a record of all the events he witnessed and actually kept this worn historical book in his pocket (you can see that from the worn condition)!
Here is a copy of the entire Diary (every written page) in a pdf file. READ it for yourself to see what I mean! There are also copies of his WWII documents from the archives as well as the original envelope that the Diary was in. His Brother Felix kept it all those years. And here are copies of photographs that were from the Family.

This is a very rare and historic American Revolution Officer Henry Dearborn handwritten 8 x 14 Inch January 31, 1804 dated document.
When fighting in the American Revolutionary War began, Henry Dearborn organized and led a local militia troop of 60 men to Boston where he fought at Battle of Bunker Hill as a captain in Colonel John Stark’s First New Hampshire Regiment. He then volunteered to serve under Benedict Arnold during the ill-fated American expedition to Quebec. In 1801, President Thomas Jefferson appointed him Secretary of War, a post he held for eight years until March 7, 1809. In 1812, when he was appointed senior major general in the United States Army in command of the northeast sector from the Niagara River to the New England coast.
This particular letter appointed Erastus Granger as Indian Agent to the Six Nations of Indians (comprising the Mohawks, Onondagas, Oneidas, Senecas, Cayugas and Tuscaroras) in New Amsterdam (later to be renamed Buffalo), New York. Henry Dearborn signed the document while he was Secretary of War serving Thomas Jefferson, who was executing an order originally given by George Washington:
"An Agent shall soon be
appointed to reside in some place convenient to the Senekas and
six Nations. He will represent the United States. Apply to him
on all occasions."
-President George Washington, December 29, 1790, in his reply
to Seneca Chief
Ki-On-Awog-Ky (Known as "Cornplanter") shown at
the lower right. The Chief of the Six Nations --
Ahyouwaighs -- is at the lower left. Both are
hand-colored lithographs by McKenney and printed by J. T.
Brown, Philadelphia. The
document measures approximately 9-1/2 by 7-1/2 inches.
There is a brief
description of the content of the document and the McKenney
artworks. The frame measures 22-1/2 inches by 30-1/2
inches.
The lot is museum quality framed, with the Dearborn document encapsulated (removable) sealed with inert gas, and the glass is UV resistant to protect the contents.

This is an outstanding document dated June Second Tuesday 1783 appointing one of the heroes of the American Revolution as a practicing lawyer in New London, Connecticut.
Richard Sill of Lyme, Connecticut was a graduate of Yale University and appears prominently in their Roll of Honor. He was an officer during the revolution and some of his campaigns include the Siege of Boston in 1775-76. He also served with Col. Parson's 10th Foot Regiment during the battle of Long Island, and the retreat to New York. He was appointed an officer, and transferred to Col. Chandler's 8th Regiment and served in Germantown and was at Valley Forge. He served throughout the rest of the war as Aid de Camp to Lord Sterling. He studied law with Aaron Burr and was acquainted with Alexander Hamilton. A brief biographical extract from Yale and Her Honor-roll in the American Revolution, 1775-1783 is shown here.
The document is shown in close-up here. Note the recommendation of Benjamin Huntington referenced. Huntington was a very high profile hero of the war as well.
The signature of the New London magistrate is very difficult to read, it appears to be Wm. Sutton Watt, Clk. (that's very approximate).
Major Sill was a member of the Connecticut Cincinnati Society (Order of Cincinnatus).
The document measures 7-1/2 by 10 inches and has a red wax seal applied. The frame is 11-1/2 by 14-1/2 inches.

TE-001 USA 19th Century Unveiling of Statue of Gen' l Fredr. von Steuben DENKMAL Washington D C PERIOD Framed Photograph. |
SThis is a 13 x 15 inch black wood framed period photograph of this
ceremony. The condition is near excellent. Friedrich Wilhelm August Heinrich Ferdinand von Steuben (born Friedrich Wilhelm Ludolf Gerhard Augustin von Steuben; September 17, 1730 – November 28, 1794), also referred to as the Baron von Steuben,[1] was a Prussian-born military officer who served as inspector general and Major General of the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War. He is credited with being one of the fathers of the Continental Army in teaching them the essentials of military drills, tactics, and disciplines.[2] He wrote the Revolutionary War Drill Manual, the book that served as the standard United States drill manual until the War of 1812. He served as General George Washington's chief of staff in the final years of the war. Steuben became an American citizen by act of the Pennsylvania legislature in March 1784 (and later by the New York authorities in July 1786). With the war over, Steuben resigned from service and first settled on Manhattan Island, where he became a prominent figure and elder in the German Reformed Church. However, even with Congress giving him large sums of money, he still managed to become largely indebted. Thus, Congress gave him a pension $1 a year which he had to keep until his death. Steuben eventually settled on a small estate in the vicinity of Utica, New York, on land granted to him for his military service. He later assisted in the founding of the Society of the Cincinnati and was appointed a Regent for what evolved into the State University of New York. He never married and had no children. He left his estate to General Benjamin Walker and Captain William North, who had served as his aides-de-camp during the war, and with whom he had an "extraordinarily intense emotional relationship ... treating them as surrogate sons".[8] He is buried what is now the Steuben Memorial State Historic Site. |

-0811 10 page document belonging to Gen. Fox Conner of the ABBEVILLE Conference May 1918 |
This is a 8.5 x 11 inch document as shown
comprising of 10 typewritten pages from the original pencil notes
taken during the meeting by LeRoy Eltinge (and signed) who later
became a US Army General and the ship USS General LeRoy Eltinge
(AP-154) was
named after. Leroy Eltinge was the Deputy Chief of
Staff of the American expeditionary forces under General Pershing at
this historic meeting.
During World War I, Conner was tapped by General John J. Pershing to be the chief of operations (G3) for the American Expeditionary Force in France with Colonel John McAuley Palmer under his immediate supervision. Another one of his subordinates was then-Lieutenant Colonel George C. Marshall, for whom Conner developed an immense respect, later recommending Marshall as the ideal soldier and a military genius. For his service as the "brain" of the AEF, Conner was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal and the Croix de Guerre. After the war, Conner wrote the after-action report that influenced the 1920 National Defense Act that set the course of the interwar Army. At a meeting of the Supreme War Council held at Abbeville May 1st and 2nd, the entire question of the amalgamation of Americans with the French and British was reopened. An urgent appeal came from both French and Italian representatives for American replacements or units to serve with their armies. After prolonged discussion regarding this question and that of priority generally the following agreement was reached, committing the Council to an independent American Army and providing for the immediate shipment of certain troops. It is used & in good plus condition. |
