German KvK War Merit Cross Medals

This decoration is maker marked with a strong small "1" of the Deschler jewelers on the lower arm. It measures 50mm across.

The condition is near excellent throughout with some very light tarnish apparent to the silver. It appears to be coin silver but there are no content marks present.

The flat medal is maker marked with a strong impressed raised small "4" (Steinhauer & Luck, Ludenscheid) on the face of the pin. The case is LDO in gilt on the white silk.

The Cross without swords was awarded for general meritorious actions.  Military personnel who qualified for the War Merit Cross in an administrative, medical, or other service away from the front line received this award, as did civilians whose contributions were of significant importance to the war effort.  Civilians were awarded the distinction  without regard to age or social class, from Diplomats to factory floor workers.
